Oct. 12 The Links at Westfork (Conroe TX)
The Highlander Girls golf team started the 2017-2018 season with a bang Thursday at Westfork GC. Many of the girls had personal tournament bests.
The 1st place winning Green team was Led by event Medalist Ava Bruner (77) and 2nd place medalist Juliana Capacho (79) Sophia Briceno added 82 and Katie Greene 83 for the team total of 321. 
The Red team was led by 3rd place medalist Myra MacLean (80) and Madie Greene 83. The Red Team total of 342 was good enough for 2nd place. 
Congrats to all the girls for a job well done and for starting the Highlanders off on a winning note.
Oct. 16 April Sound CC (Montgomery TX)
The Girls Freshman Team and JV Team took on some of the areas best at April Sound. The short course made reaching the greens fairly easy but as usual, April Sound greens proved to difficult to get the putters on track.
The freshman team placed 7th of 17 teams. Allison Smith led the way with a team low of 90 while Davis Pendley added 92.
Freshmen, Anistyn Smart led the way for the JV team (13th place) with a 104. 
Oct. 27&28 River Ridge GC (Sealy TX)
The Highlanders entered the Katy ISD Fall Classic a bit shorthanded, but, the next payers up were up for the challenge.
The wind in Sealy Texas didn't do anyone any faors as steady 25 mph with gusts up to 40 were hammering the kids all day frday. Saturday's round was a bit calmer, but a lot colder.
The Red Team was led by 8th place finisher Junior - Karina Benavides (78-75) and Freshman - Avery Blake (81-82) The team finished 3rd in a strong 16 team field.
The Green team placed 10th as Senior - Daira Moreno (89-82) and Senior - Sophia Briceno (90-90) led the way.

Oct. 30 Conroe CC (Conroe TX)
The Woodlands Freshman Girls finished 5th at the Conroe HS Varsity Girls Golf Tournament. The Girls learned a few valuable lessons while playing with some very accomplished players.
Davis Pendley was the low scorer for the Highlanders while Allison Smith, Holly Paterson, Gabby Reese and Halle Byrom all contributed to the team finish.

Oct. 31 Lake Windcrest CC (Magnolia TX)
The Highlander Girls wrapped up a busy few days by grabbing 2nd place in the Magnolia HS Fall Classic.
The Red team (2nd Place) was led by Senior Erika Grey who posted a team low 93.
The Green Team (6th place) was led by a pair of Freshman, Anistyn Smart and Ashley Gibson who appear to be on the brink of breaking 100 for the 1st time in competition.

Nov 6 The Villages of Panorama (Willis TX)
The Girls JV Team claimed 2nd place in the Willis HS Girls Championship. Sophmore Madeline Kretschmer (96) earned a 2nd place individual result and Freshman Ashley Gibson (98) earned a 3rd place finish. Each fired personal bests as they led the team to the lofty finish.
Anistyn Smart and Emma Smith also contributed to the team score.
Nov 10&11 Cottonwood GC (Waco)
The Girls Varsity Team finished in 1st place at The Central Texas Shootout at Cottonwood in Waco. The Team score of 313-306 totaled 619 and was 49 strokes better than the nearest competitors. 
 
Leading the way for the Highlanders were Kenlie Barret (Sr) who was the tournament champion with a great score of 75-68=143. Fellow Senior, Hana Bowman finished in 3rd place with 2 solid scores of 76-78=154. Junior Karina Benavides added 80-79=159.
The Girls Freshman team placed 6th in the regional event with a 2 day total of 708. Freshman Avery Blake led the way with a 2 day total of 164. Freshman teammates Holly Paterson, Davis Pendley, Allison Smith, and Gabby Reese all added personal best 1 round tournament scores to aid the team effort.

Nov 17&18 Legacy Hills (Georgetown TX)
The Highlander Girls took 2nd place at the Texas 6A State Preview at Legacy Hills. Most of the top players and Teams looking to claim the 2017-2018 State Championship were on hand dueling with the Golf course and Mother Nature.
The Highlader 317-309=626 clipped Southlake Carrol by a single shot for 2nd place.
Kenlie Barrett was the low Highlander with 2 solid rounds of 73. That was enough to earn a 3rd place individual finish. Karina Benavides fired a pair of 78's to finish 9th.

Nov 29 Glen Loch Pines (Spring TX)
The Girls JV participated in the Oak Ridge HS JV Girls event at Glennloch Pines.
The Girls were led by Sophmore Chloe Miller and Freshman Anistyn Smart who both shot 104. 
Although the team did not place, there were improvements made both physically and mentally. 
Dec 1&2 Bentwater CC - Miller (Montgomery TX)
The Highlander A team and Freshman team closed out the fall season at the Montgomery Bear Traditions Invitational at Bentwater. The Highlanders competed in a very strong field that was littered with teams that have their sights on claiming the Texas 6A and 5A State titles. 
 
The A Team placed 6th with a 2 day total of 632. The A Team was led by Freshman Avery Blake who fired a 2 day total of 150, good enough for 9th place individual. Senior Hana Bowman added 159 while kenlie Barrett added 160.
 
The Freshman team placed 15th and was led by Davis Pendley who added 84-89 for a 173 total. 
Jan 15&16 Oaks and Panther Trail (The Woodlands TX)
The Woodlands Girls competed with 24 other High school Varsity teams in the Vern Edwards Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Woodlands Oaks and Panther Trails courses. The weather shortened event was cut to just 18 holes of play. 
The Red Team Finished 3rd as Hana Bowman (3rd individual) led the way with a 73. Karina Benavides added a 7th place score of 75.
The Green Team finished 6th as Julianna Capacho fired an 81. Ava Bruner and Daira Moreno added 83's.
The Ruby Team finished 14th. Davis Pendley shot 89 while Myra MaClean and Katie Greene added 90's.
The Emerald Team finished 20th as Allison Smith led the way with a 90. 
Feb 2&3 The Woodlands CC Tournament Course and Player Course (The Woodlands TX)
6 of the Houston area's best High School girls golf teams slugged it out over the 2 toughest tests any high school golfer can face in tournament play. The Woodlands Country Club Tournament course and Player course provided the girls with the most challenging course while mother nature added a high level of difficulty with cold temps and spitting rain.
The Highlanders finished 2nd. Falling behind the eventual champion by a single stroke. 
Freshman Avery Blake finished the event with scores of 83-74 and claimed 3rd place individual.
Senior Kenlie Barrett finished 4th at 76-83.
Feb 5 Glen Loch Pines (Spring TX)
The Highlander 3rd team placed 2nd in the Klein ISD Any girls event at Glennloch Pines. The Team score of 336 was only outdone by the Hometown Klein Oak squad.
The JV Team placed 12th in the 19 team field of Varsity teams.
Katie Greene led the way for the Highlanders with an 80 while Erika Grey added 81.
Feb 13 High Meadow Ranch (Tomball TX)
The Highlanders battled mother nature to and the difficult High Meadow Ranch Golf Club. Steady fog, occasional rain, 40-45 degree temps added to the difficulty of the event.
The Girls Green team won the event by outlasting the competition. The Green Team was led by upperclassmen Parker Bliss and Rebecca Simbeck and supported by freshmen, Gabby Reese and Holly Patterson.
The Red Team finished 4th. They were led by Chloe Miller, Ashley Gibson and Anistyn Smart.
Feb 16 & 17 High Meadow Ranch (Tomball TX)
The Highlanders played in the Magnolia HS Girls Spring Fling with many of the area's and state's best teams. 
The Red Team finished 4th and was led by Junior Karina Benavides (154), Senior Hana Bowman (156) and Freshman Avery Blake (157)
The Green Team placed 11th and was led by Senior Daira Moreno (159).
The Emerald team placed 16th and was led by Freshman Allison Smith (185)
Feb 23 & 24 Raven Nest (Huntsville TX)
The Girls Green and Ruby Teams played in the mud and rain friday in the rain shortened Hornet invitational. 
The Green Team placed 3rd with a solid score 337. Senior Daira Moreno led the way with an 80, while Ava Bruner added 81.
The Ruby Team finished 5th as Freshman Davis Pendly fired an 87 and Myra MacLean added 88.
Feb 26 The Villages of Panorama (Willis TX)
The Ruby and Sage Teams played in the WIllis Shrimp Open monday. The Ruby Team finished 3rd with Rebecca Simbeck and Parker Bliss leading the way. Madeline Kretschmer of the Sage Team finished 2nd individually with a 90.
Mar 2 & 3 Cottonwood GC (Waco)
The Girls top 10 played in the Marvin Dameron Regional Preview at Cottonwood in Waco. The Red Team finished 4th while the Green Team placed 5th.
Leading the Way for the Red Team were Karina Benavides two day total of 154 and Kenblie Barrett and Hana Bowman adding 156.
The Green Team was led by Daira Moreno's 156 and Samantha Salcedo's 161.
Mar 23 & 24 Kingwood CC - Forest (Kingwood TX)
District Golf Tournament
April 3 & 4 High Meadow Ranch (Tomball TX)
The Girls qualified for the Regional tournament with a 2nd place finish. We had a 3 way tie for 3rd place individual within the team. Kenlie Barrett, Hana Bowman, and Karina Benavides all fired a 151. Avery Blake added 154 for the team finish.
Regional Golf Tournament
April 23 & 24 Cottonwood GC (Waco)
The girls qualified for the State tournament with a solid 3rd place finish. Kenlie Barrett tied for 3rd place at 147 while Hana Bowman added 151, Karina Benavides added 157 and Daira Moreno added 159.
Congrats to the girls for moving on to State!
Texas State Golf Championship
May 21 & 22 Legacy Hills (Georgetown TX)
The Highlanders Girls Golf Team Tied for 2nd Place at the 2017-2018 Texas 6A State Championships. The Girls battled for 36 holes against 11 of the best Girls Teams in the nation.
Karina Benavides (Jr) lead the girls with a 2 day total of 147. Some of her best golf of the year included a 3 under par front 9 on day 1 to get the team out to a fast start. 
Karina also buried a 20 foot sliding putt on the tournaments final hole of regulation play for a birdie to force 2nd Place Tie with Lake Travis HS.
 
Seniors Kenlie Barrett and Hana Bowman have played their final rounds as Highlanders. Their 2 day totals of 152 were vital for the teams success and they should be proud of the Legacy that they have continued for Highlander nation.
 
Senior Daira Moreno also added an important score of 79 on Day 1. This is a team effort and without the fight and grind that Daira exhibited for 36 holes we wouldn't have earned a medal.
Last, but certainly not least, Freshman Avery Blake was simply a beast on Day 2 for the team. Firing a 74 on the final, pressure packed day, with the team in the heat of the battle was simple huge.
